Background
To eliminate stigma and change the perception of the food bank while raising awareness about student food insecurity. Food insecurity is a prevalent problem among postsecondary students and the perceived stigma of not being financially stable have led to many feeling socially isolated. As a result, students become hesitant to seek help, let alone use campus food banks. Solutions must consider the preservation of self-identity while creating a new narrative of support and inclusivity.
The Idea
The Mix is an innovative brand and food space that celebrates all cultures and perspectives. It embraces the social aspect of food and conveys the food bank as less than a place of need, but rather a community resource and student hub. Through the culmination of unique stories, cultures, and identities, The Mix is a collective of strong and supportive individuals advocating progression. It ushers in a new, revived perspective that will eradicate social stigmatization and place an inclusive outlook on the issue of food insecurity.
